  77.   The sad fact of most rainforest destruction is that many countries,
  78. under the burden of debt, feel they need to "develop and exploit"
  79. remote rainforest areas to earn export dollars just to pay interest
  80. on foreign loans.  (See the forest/tropical rainforest section
  81. for more details.) 
  82.   One way we can slow forest destruction is by not buying products
  83. that result from the "slash and burn" land management style.
  84.  Instead buy rainforest products that result from sustainable
  85. management of the natural forest areas, such as brazil nuts and
  86. natural latex rubber. 
  87.   Destructive rainforest products to avoid: 
  88.   - Imported beef, since about 2/3 of the forested land is cleared
  89. for short-term cattle ranching. 
  90.   - Tropical hardwood products - plywood and furniture - made from
  91. rosewood, teak, and mahogany.  Instead buy ash, bamboo, cedar,
  92. or pine products.
